Dr. Rajiv Kovil – Editorial February 2022

Welcome, all readers to another exciting edition of the year!

This month’s edition has covered many unique topics for the readers including the prevalence of diabetic retinopathy and diabetic macular edema in People With Early-Onset Diabetes as compared to patients diagnosed after 40 years of age. Articles highlighting the effects of drugs such as dulaglutide, acetaminophen, satins, SGLT-2i can help practitioners to improve the treatment strategies. While the prevalence of GDM is increasing, research concludes that assessing resting heart rate (RHR) early in pregnancy can detect the risk of GDM. I personally feel that this can be one of the helpful tools to improve antenatal management and pregnancy outcome.

This month’s edition also includes an article summary providing guidance on DM management in Kidney Transplant recipients as these patients are at high risk of Post-transplant diabetes mellitus (PTDM). The reader can go through articles discussing various metabolic changes related to DM and also the burden of Covid-19 on patients with this condition. The article also highlights the concept of “Metabolically Healthy Obese Individuals” and its consequences.

Lastly, as I am writing this editorial, Russia’s invasion on Ukraine has entered fourth day. Indian students in Ukraine are trying to flee the war-torn country, and the World is witnessing heart-breaking scenes of civilian death. Our thoughts and prayers are with Ukrainians and those residing in Ukraine.

Happy Reading to everyone!
